MESSAGE FROM THE FESTIVAL DIRECTOR

Scotland Loves Animation is here to promote animation as art. We run film festivals, workshops, exhibitions, graduate showcases, and all sorts of other events in Scotland to appeal to all ages and tastes. We’re a charity so Scotland Loves Animation events are entirely non-profit: every penny from ticket sales goes into bringing bigger, better events to you.

In 2010, we ran our first film festival: Scotland Loves Anime, a celebration of Japanese animation (or “anime”) in Glasgow, Edinburgh, and Dundee. It was a huge success thanks to an enthusiastic audience of over 3,500 attendees and everyone had fun, including us!  Continuing on from that success, the festival has gone from strength to strength with over 5,500 visitors now.  Scotland Loves Anime has become the top event for theatrical anime in the UK, screening the cream of Japanese animated film every year.

ABOUT SCOTLAND LOVES ANIMATION

Among the guests we’ve welcomed too are: Oscar Wright of Scott Pilgrim fame, Japanese anime directors Satoshi Nishimura (Trigun Badlands Rumble), Ryosuke Takahashi (Votoms, Gasaraki), Naoko Yamada(K-On!, Tamako Market), Masayuki Miyaji (Xam’d, FUSE), Makoto Shinkai (5Cm Per Second, Garden of Words) and anime industry veteran Jonathan Clements (Schoolgirl Milky Crisis).

Although anime has been our focus to date, our scope is broader than that. Supporting talented young animators, scriptwriters, and digital artists is one of our top priorities. That’s why Scotland Loves Animation aims to get industry professionals, creative students, and graduates under the same roof to showcase their skills and share ideas. We’ll be doing just that in Edinburgh on Friday the 19th of October.
